So He Does Exist ....

The following post will only make sense to a few. But for those that are in on it ... it's so beautiful.

Upon seeing this, I gave a high pitched shriek and somehow managed to not pass out. Rubbing my eyes to make sure I wasn't dreaming, I whipped out my camera phone and told my aunt to step on it & draw up along side ... and then I captured this precious picture.

It was like seeing Santa.

Oh China ...

Spending 5 weeks in China, I had my fingers crossed that I would find some top notch "Manglish", mangled english. And sure enough, China did not disappoint.

The dessert section of the first Shanghai restaurant I ate in announced a refreshing dish of "Fresh Fruit with Crack Ice". Darn, I forgot my pipe ...

But Beijing proved to be the winner. These are signs from the Ladies toilets in my Beijing office. Yes, office.

I couldn't help but wonder if the person in the cubicle next to me was having their afternoon tea break in there.

Thank god someone finally told me how to get rid of those pesky dunghill stains.

And if something goes wrong with your dunghill?? No worries - you can be rushed here :

Hibernation

Yes folks, it's that time of the year when certain animals who can't stand the cold decide it's time to hibernate.
That said, you won't be seeing me for the next few months as I wait for the Chicago winter to pass.

You know it's winter in Chicago when :
- You get a snowflake in your eye. Twice.
- Wearing ugg boots out in public actually seems like a good idea.
- Su-Yin goes AWOL.

P.S. Looks like CH & I are in possession of an illicit substance. I think I'll have to start charging people for it now!

This Week's Craving

2 words - Cherry Ripe.
Craving satisfied thanks to a teeny weeny Cherry Ripe c/o Pete.

But where am I gonna find a Balfour's Meat Pie & a goonbag of cheap red?
Noice.

A New One ...

It's been a fun Labour Day long weekend. A lot of Yanks seems to travel, but CH & I didn't have time to organise anything, so the long weekend was spent in Chi-town catching up with friends, eating & shopping - can't complain about that!
We managed to check out a Cocktail Lounge called Japonais, located on the banks of the Chicago River & which has by far has the best cocktails that I've tried in the city. Their signature cocktail has a real orchid flaoting in it. Noice.

We also dined at some new sure-to-be favourites : Feast and Bite, both in our foodalicious neighbourhood.

Then we had a barbie for a friends birthday, where we met some rowdy US Navy sailors. These boys drank vodka like a fat kid drinks Coke. They also taught me a new saying, which I assume is in retaliation to the "Once you go black, you never go back".
"Once you go Asian, you nver go Caucasian".
Take that you 'Gwei-los'!

The Final Crikey

It would be totally un-Aussie of me if I didn't send a big shout out to the late Steve Irwin. Though often the butt of many Aussie jokes, & also being the reason why many Yanks ask me to say 'Crikey!'; he was still a bloke with a big heart & a 2 lil tackers to support.

It's been all over the US news, so the guy obviously made his mark in the world.

My favourite episode of the Croc Hunter is the episode where it takes on spitting cobras, and of course cops several rounds of venom in the eyes, without any water on hand. Classic Irwin.

Krypto-Mite?

I brought some Vegemite into work. It's been sitting in my cube for a whole week.
People come up, smell it, and make funny faces. But still - no one has dared eat it.
Most say "sure, I'll try it" but when it comes to the crunch, they all back out.

Come on - how could something that puts a rose in every cheek & is made from leftover beer yeast be a bad thing??
