Straight From The Horses Mouth

For those that know Kev, feel free to pay him out about this one!

He was telling me about the effects of his recent gym sessions & literally said :
"My muscles are growing & i can feel it in my pants!"

At which point he also started tugging at his pants (presumably to show me how loose they were).
Aaah Kev, you could at least buy a girl dinner first!

After googling for "military radio talk" I found the following Military Slang on Wikipedia! It's pretty funny to read.

They have stuff that sounds really rude, but isn't :
cheesedick = Suckup, brown noser
dickbeaters = Fingers

And stuff that sounds innocent but stands for rude stuff :
CATFU = (KAT-foo-(ed)) Completely And Totally Fuck(ed) Up (i.e. "This thing is CATFUed")
Alpha Mike Foxtrot = Adios Mother Fucker
Charlie Foxtrot = aka clusterfuck, a disastrous situation that results from the cumulative errors of several people or groups.
FIDO = Fuck It, Drive On. i.e. What to do following a Charlie Foxtrot.
FIGMO = Fuck it, got my orders

The less imaginative :
BFR = Big fucking rock
BFW = Big fucking wrench
BGB = Big Gray Boat

And just plain funny stuff :
armored cow = canned milk

I've barely skimmed the first few letters of the alphabet, but it's GOLD.

A Public Apology

Dear Poon,

Hope you had fun on Saturday night - all of us boogying away together in Sugar. I had a top night.
Thanks heaps for trying to teach me a new dance move. I'm not sure if it was a pop, a lock, or a pop and lock. Maybe Jon can explain oneday.

Anyway - just wanted to apologise for kicking you in the shin about ten times. Apparently after a few drinks I'm pretty uncoordinated. Actually, without drinking I'm pretty uncoordinated, with drinks I'm just dangerous.
Somehow my right leg just didn't wanna be the first one to kick, so no matter how hard I tried, my left foot just kept kicking you.

If anyone out there is willing to donate a shin bone, I'm sure Poon would appreciate it. I'd give one of my own, but you'd be lop-sided and look a bit sissy I think. Not that there's anytihng wrong with that.

Sincere Apologies,
Su-Yin (and her left foot)

For anyone interested, it went something like this (facing each other):
- arms extended horizontally with one palm up, one palm down
- 'clap' hands with the other person (like that patta-cake hand clapping game)
- repeat but rotate hands 180 degrees
- clap hands with the other person twice
- point fingers out in diagonally opposite directions (top-right & bottom-left) whilst kicking out right leg
- repeat but in opposite directions (top-left & bottom-right) whilst kicking out left leg

More Fringing

Yesterday had a bit of a Fringe Fest, seeing two performances in about 5 hours.

Here Lies Love was the first event for the night ... which was basically advertised as a musical about Imelda Marcos. I think the word 'musical' was used a bit loosely. Nusical to me means sets, costumes, people singing a story. There was a band, two singers & a narrator in a production which closely resembled an amatuer karaoke night. The singers moved their microphones backwards & forwards, depending on who was singing the lead, and several times the narrator stopped the band just as they were about to launch into a song "just a minute, I need a minute" to check something on his music stand ... I dunno, like what chord he was supposed to play or something.
Anyway - despite the amatuerish-ness of it, the story told was very interesting.

After a quick dinner at Ying Chow, we saw Scottish-Indian comedian Danny Bhoy. Not bad - funny stuff, but I think a few too many people had been raving about him, so I was a little disappointed that I wasn't rolling around laughing by the end of it.

But the choice of venue for Danny Bhoy was interesting - the Freemason's Hall on North Terrace. The Freemasons are some secret society . I found it interesting that a supposedly secret society would have a *massive* hall in the middle of Adelaide city. Although having said that, I never knew that the hall was there until yesterday.
If anyone has seen that Simpsons episode where Homer joins the Stonecutters secret society ... I was imagining that the hall was where they did all their initiation ceremonies "Crossing the Desert", "The Unblinking Eye" and of course "the Paddling of the Swollen Ass...With Paddles".

Best Of The Fest

Adelaide is going off.
This is just about the best time for people to be in Adelaide. Right now we're busy busy busy with :
- Adelaide Fringe Festival
- Adelaide Festival of Arts
- Womadelaide
- Adelaide Cup

Last night I saw 'Breakin Ground' which started off with an awesome DJ & then TerraFirma a local hip-hop group. But the main act was Wanted Posse, these unbelievable break dancers from France that were pulling all kinds of crazy moves.
Found this video of Junior, who was by far the most impressive of the lot. Un-freaking-believable.

Saw the opening of the Festival of Arts 'Il Cielo che Danza (The Dancing Sky)' which was done by the Italian group that performed at the opening of the Winter Olympics in Turin. Pretty awesome stuff - there were ballerinas suspended from wires, and more amazingly, people suspended from giant helium balloons, which I've captured in a shot below :

Identification Friend or Foe : Friend

Hey all - just practising my new defence lingo, which I'm finding pretty cool. "IFF" is just one of the many acronyms I've been trying to learn lately.

Just wanted to plug a blog for a new buddy, Colin, right here.

Colin's mum & my mum worked together in Scotland oh so many years ago, & Colin is performing the great post-uni tradition of backpacking around Australia. So he's game enough to bunk down with me & mum in Adelaide for a while, let's see how long he survives.

Moshing

Yesterday I bought a ticket to see U2 & Kanye West - YEAH!!
28th March, can't wait baby!

Of course, I could only afford the general admission tickets, which means I'll be roughing it out in the mosh pit :D

The last time I was in a mosh pit was a decade ago - Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Now that was an awesome concert.

Makes me feels so old to be able to used the word 'decade' to describe a part of my life. But no need to panic, it's all under control.

Benny (see girly smiling photo below) & I have decided to stay 25 for the next few years, then when things start sagging & wrinkling we're heading to Mexico (meh-hico) for the cheap tequila and the cheap & nasty plastic surgery. So say goodbye to Su-Yin & Ben, & hello to Sancho & Poncho.
